The OnePlus 12R’s features, price, and launch date are all listed

As smartphone prices continue to soar, OnePlus has adjusted its approach from launching a single device per year to offering several models, each targeting different market segments. The standard OnePlus 12 is designed to be the company’s flagship, while the forthcoming OnePlus 12R will cater to those seeking a more wallet-friendly choice. Here’s all the essential information you need.

When is the OnePlus 12R set to launch?

In keeping with OnePlus’s tradition, the 12R will first be unveiled in China on January 4th, followed by a worldwide release on January 23rd during the “Smooth Beyond Belief” event in India.

OnePlus 12R: Design and Screen

Mirroring its sibling, the OnePlus 12, the 12R adheres to the brand’s design principles with an integrated rounded camera cutout. While exact measurements are uncertain, it will maintain the coveted alert slider but positioned on the opposite side.

On the front, a centered punch-hole selfie camera graces the 12R alongside a 6.78-inch FHD+ 120Hz OLED HDR10+ screen. Furthermore, it includes a valuable feature allowing it to scale down to 1Hz and offers protection via Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Though it’s worth mentioning that its chin is slightly more prominent compared to its bigger counterpart. Lastly, rumor has it that global color options may include an Iron Blue resembling Google Pixel and a standard Iron Gray edition.

Technical Specifications

With powerful specs as their forte, OnePlus delivers once again with the 12R. A last-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip drives this device accompanied by an Adreno 740 GPU capable of running contemporary 3D games. In terms of sheer power, it scores an impressive 1982 on Geekbench’s single-core test and 5292 on the multi-core test.

Additionally, it offers up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of rapid UFS 4.0 storage capacity.

The company’s camera strategy for its budget series typically includes a solid primary sensor while forgoing the telephoto lens. To that end, the OnePlus 12R houses a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 primary sensor capable of recording videos at up to 4K@60fps.

Complementing the main camera are an 8MP 120˚ ultra-wide lens and a 2MP macro lens designed for capturing depth data.

OnePlus’s software has been a subject of extensive debate over recent years, mainly due to the brand’s move away from stock Android. Nevertheless, it remains among the fastest smartphone skins. The OnePlus 12R debuts with OxygenOS 14 based on Android 14, ensuring four years of software support.

Battery and Charging

The OnePlus 12R’s battery, which has a sizable 5,500mAh capacity and supports 100W fast-wired charging, may be its most notable feature. But it’s crucial to remember that the 12R has a lithium-polymer cell, which breaks down more quickly over time, in place of the usual lithium-ion.

What is the price of the OnePlus 12R?

Although the OnePlus 12R’s official price has not yet been revealed, current speculations suggest that it will cost between $450 and $500.
